Project Overview

RapidQS provides expert construction cost estimates, but their website was creating more work than it saved. They brought me in as their Lead Product Designer to fix the friction .

I collaborated with their team and clients to simplify the journey, turning a clunky site into a streamlined gateway while mapping out their future web app .

Challenge

Gemini said The site’s biggest hurdle was a clunky upload process that led to frequent user errors and a layout that felt more like a maze than a service . Dense, repetitive text buried the brand's value, while low-contrast elements and visual inconsistencies failed to project the premium, accurate image the team had earned .

Approach

The approach centred on clarity, structuring the experience to enable quick, confident decision making. This involved prioritising key information, simplifying navigation, and ensuring every element was consistent visually and aligned with the brand.

Solution

The result is a clear and focused experience that establishes RapidQS as a fast, accurate, and reliable solution in the quantity surveying space. Information is structured for ease of use, with strong hierarchy and direct messaging that allow users to understand and engage with the platform immediately.

Understanding the problem

Before starting the redesign, I analysed the existing website and discussed the business goals with the founders to understand where the experience was falling short. The audit revealed several issues that affected both usability and conversion.

  1. The value proposition was not immediately clear to new visitors

  1. Services were difficult to understand due to weak information hierarchy

  1. Engagement with the upload form was low

  1. The overall design lacked structure and visual consistency

As a result, users had to spend unnecessary time figuring out what RapidQS offered and how to request an estimate. This discovery phase helped define a clear objective for the redesign.

The goal was to create a website that communicates value quickly, builds trust, and guides users toward submitting project enquiries.

Clarity and speed of understanding are critical for conversion.

Builders and developers often visit quantity surveying services when they are already in the middle of planning a project. In this context, they need to quickly understand what the service offers, how the process works, and how fast they can receive an estimate.

Improved Navigation

The original navigation lacked clear structure and context, making it difficult for users to quickly understand RapidQS’s services or find relevant information.

The redesigned navigation presents services with clarity and context, aided by visual cues, helping users quickly scan options and navigate to the right service.

Clearer Pricing Experience

The original pricing section presented information in a dense format, making it difficult for users to quickly understand the available service options and pricing tiers.

The redesigned section simplifies this experience by organising pricing into clear project categories and interactive selections. This allows users to quickly identify the type of project they are working on and understand the associated pricing range.

Clearer Service Communication

The original services section relied heavily on text and internal terminology, making it harder for users to quickly understand the different estimating services offered.

The redesigned section simplifies service communication by focusing on the key offerings and presenting them in a clearer, more visual layout. Each service is supported with icons and concise descriptions, helping users quickly grasp what RapidQS provides and choose the right option.

Updated Visual Language

The original visual style relied on a limited colour palette and generic imagery, which made the brand feel cold and less distinctive.

The redesign introduced a warmer and more refined visual language. A softer neutral palette paired with the signature yellow creates stronger contrast and a more modern feel, while updated photography brings a more human and relatable tone to the brand.

The redesign establishes the foundation for RapidQS, for future transformation into a web app.

The next evolution of RapidQS is transforming the platform from a service website into an interactive estimation tool. By introducing AI powered instant estimates, users will be able to upload plans and receive a quick ballpark figure immediately, dramatically reducing the waiting time and helping builders make faster early stage decisions.

Reflection

Designing for RapidQS highlighted how important clarity and structure are in industries where users are often working under time pressure. Builders and developers need to understand services quickly and move toward decisions without unnecessary friction.

This project was less about adding features and more about simplifying the experience. By restructuring information, strengthening visual hierarchy, and focusing on the conversion journey, the website now communicates RapidQS’s value more clearly while creating a stronger foundation for future digital tools.

Good design is not just about how something looks, but how clearly it communicates value and helps people move forward with confidence.
