Project Overview
Yuyuan Garden, nestled within Shanghai's vibrant cityscape, is a serene sanctuary dating back to the Ming Dynasty in 1559. As a quintessential example of classical Chinese garden design, it offers visitors a deep connection to the tranquility and cultural richness of ancient China.
For this project, I reimagined the Yuyuan tea house in a fantasy setting, aiming to capture the unique experience of enjoying tea in this historic garden. The packaging design and illustrations reflect this theme, evoking the sense of wonder and serenity that comes with each sip.
Initial sketches
I began with traditional Chinese illustration styles, creating elements that reflected this heritage. From there, I experimented with various color palettes, starting with more traditional hues to highlight the building’s rich cultural history before shifting to a more contemporary feel.
Packaging
Initially, the illustrations with golden foil gave the packaging an overly premium feel, so we adjusted the design to a more modern, fresh aesthetic using a vibrant color palette. This approach was adapted across packaging boxes and cases for teas and other corporate gifting items.
